The first 21 Étuis will be released as collector’s editions, each individually numbered with calligraphic inscriptions to memorialize these very first pieces.
There are certain objects that stay with you. For me, the étui was one of them.
Étui du Rêveur is a sleek, modern rendition of the historic French étui, imbued with subtle Royal Victorian touches and Letter Alley soul. Inspired by the legendary Palais Royal étuis of the early 1800s, each coin has been designed to maintain a beautifully slender, delicate profile true to the antiques while still allowing for rich, three-dimensional engraving. Soft modern lines meet antique French filigree, creating a piece that feels both timeless and of-the-moment.
Within the étui are five interchangeable coins, each carrying its own story and symbolism:
Coin No. 1: Harmony of the Written Word
The first coin ever created for the Étui du Rêveur, and the heart from which the entire collection grew.
The obverse features an ornate harp engraved with the phrase “Pas d’harmonie sans accord” translating to “There is no harmony without agreement”. The reverse reveals a feather quill bearing the words “Tout s’inscrit” or “Everything is written.”
Directly inspired by an antique Palais Royal étui from the early 1800s, this coin was born of a deep love for the harp — so exquisitely beautiful in both form and sound — and a reverence for the written word in an age increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence.
Coin No. 2: Victorian Filigree
If you’ve been following the Letter Alley journey, you’ll recognize my long-running obsession with French Victorian filigree. This coin was an absolute must. A dainty ornamental frame graces the obverse, while an intricate pattern adorns the reverse. Delicate, refined, and endlessly charming, this one turned out especially lovely at this scale.
Coin No. 3: The Traveler
Created for fellow wanderers at heart. The obverse features a detailed antiquarian compass, meant to guide you wherever your journey may lead. The reverse shows a botanical moon, a quiet wish for nature to support you along the way. Together, they form a small talisman for grounding, exploration, and finding your way outward and within.
Coin No. 4: Ever in Bloom
This coin is an ode to flowers, a constant source of happiness, no matter the country or the season. One side features a single royal orchid in bloom; the other, a scattering of dainty bluebells. A gentle reminder that beauty is always present, if you know where to look.
Coin No. 5: Peace in Aspiration
The final coin of the étui carries a wish: for dreams to come true, aspirations to be realized, and the odds to be ever in your favor. The obverse bears the words “May your intentions take flight,” while the reverse features a lucky dove carrying an olive branch — a timeless symbol of hope, peace, and possibility.
